I also tried "FN" + keys, I read that you can "turn on and off" your touchpad with FN + some random key (random for me anyway). With that, I'm not sure if my main issue has to do with Linux not being direcly on my laptop's hard disk. I do plan on dedicating time to learning Linux more and hopefully stay a long term user, so I wanted linux on my external hard drive so I can leave my laptop and just take my OS with me, and it would really suck if I had to carry my mouse with me (I like to travel as light as possible). I know in the past when I used Mint and Ubuntu on another laptop, touchpad worked without an issue (I think it was my HP g series laptop).
#TOSHIBA LAPTOP TRACKPAD NOT WORKING UPDATE#
Solution 3: Update the latest wireless mouse driver. I just installed Linux Mint MATE (I'm gonna try KDE after it's done downloading) Petra, from the time I booted the installer from the usb to actually installing Linux on my external hard drive, my touchpad does not work at all, it hasn't from the very start 'til now. Laptop Mouse Pad Not Working Dell: It is quite irritating when the on-screen cursor becomes unresponsive. So I decided to make a thread and hope someone out there can guide me! If the touchpad still does not work correctly proceed to the next step. Power on the computer and retest the touchpad.

Unplug everything except the power cord (AC Adapter). I'd just like to mention first off that I have searched (I actually installed this 4 times and ubuntu once) for a fix, and haven't found one directly related to my issue. Turn off the computer (when the touchpad does not respond hold the power button down for up to 15 seconds to turn off the computer).
